2004 BYH Yiwu
This cake was stored in Taiwan until 2023. The dry cake has a beautiful pungent resinous perfume.
Sweet, dried fruit, deep breathing. Leather, opens the throat. Resinous and juicy, with underripe plum astringency. Gentle frisson, core warming. As steeps progress, a comfortable woody sweetness with some astringency. Continues to be relaxing as the flavour fades. Smooth flowy feeling, no unpleasant alertness. Very good energy and focus.
After the 4th steep, the liquor lightens up significantly while maintaining thickness and heating— while this tea is almost 20 years old, it still shows a lot of youth and could benefit from continued warm storage. 7.7
